25 April
Only very few clouds, weak to moderate but rather chilly winds and 14.2°C (12:28 PM) were suitable for my final April field trip. Zone I had to be skipped for the most part and all Z I observations were made nexe to the bike path.
+-------------------------+---------------------------------+--------+ | Species | Location | Status | +-------------------------+---------------------------------|--------+ | Aglais io | Zone I / II | Adult | |-------------------------|---------------------------------|--------| | Anthocharis cardamines | Zone I / II / III | Adult | | | | / Egg | |-------------------------|---------------------------------|--------| | Araschnia levana | Zone II | Adult | |-------------------------|---------------------------------|--------| | Gonepteryx rhamni | Zone III | Adult | |-------------------------|---------------------------------|--------| | Issoria lathonia | Zone II / III | Adult | |-------------------------|–--------------------------------|--------| | Pararge aegeria | Zone I | Adult | |-------------------------|---------------------------------|--------| | Pieris brassicae | Zone II | Adult | |-------------------------|–--------------------------------|--------| | Pieris napi | Zone I / II / III | Adult | |-------------------------|–--------------------------------|--------| | Pyrgus malvae | Zone II | Adult | +-------------------------+---------------------------------+--------+
Two surprises already can be spotted: The first is P. aegeria which not only returned last year but now made its very first spring appearance since my observations started in 2022, the second is my first egg of A. cardamines seen on a garlic mustard that was spotted in Z III.
Despite an rather large amount of bicycle traffic and a car that blocked my usual Z I path, this is a satisfactory end of April.
