10 August (Additional Note)

Recently I noticed that I've only visited the western half of Zone III once or twice at best back in spring. Given that the widespread absence of P. coridon started to worry me, I decided to ignore the fact that the weather forecast was horribly off for this day. Instead of cooler temperatures around 26°C, my weather station measured 29.2°C (10:16 AM), with no winds and a clear sky.

"Car Repair" had to be skipped due to being blocked off by tractors.

Except for P. rapae and M. jurtina, only one individual was observed for each species. The long-missed P. coridon was an old male with washed-out colors and damaged wings feeding on hawkweed oxtongue (Picris hieracioides) but more out of sheer hunger than enjoyment. It was so busy consuming nectar that I was able to touch its wings which I was only able to do once before – back in 2022 when two males got attracted by my sweaty skin on one of my trips to the Meisel.

Speaking of the Meisel: Just like "Bog Hill", this additional zone also won't be visited this year. First it also suffered from a sudden influx of tourists in July. Ironically I also got knocked down by a cold around the same time, yet now the risk of wildfires is so high that it'd be reckless of me to visit this area, given that I need my car to get there. Bicycle is out of question; the last time I traveled such a difficult route by bike I ended up in hospital with a kidney stone and the multiple heat waves not only prevent the wounds on my skin from a month ago from healing, they have started to mess up my period despite keeping track of my water consumption and spending most of the time in a "cool" room (with 24°C at all times, even at night).
