With mostly cloudy conditions, weak to moderate but chilly winds and 20.2°C (11:09 AM), the weather quickly shifted back to unusually cold. Another heat wave is expected to reach Germany next week.

I got to "Mixed Field" right in time as its southern part was started to being mowed. West to the northern part one half of the field currently is being grazed by three goats.

Excluding C. minimus, P rapae and P. icarus, this extreme July so far has been almost as stressful to insects as the drought of 2022. M. galathea ended its season after just roughly three weeks, T. sylvestris also ended its season rather abruptly. The latter's sister species – T. lineola and T. acteon – and O. sylvanus now are very unlikely to make an appearance this year, making it the first time for T. lineola and O. sylvanus in particular to be absent for a whole season. While I. lathonia might return in August, A. paphia is set to be absent for its second season in a row. P. coridon, which saw a drastic decline last year, also is at great risk of becoming missing.

It should be noted that A. hyperantus was seen by my mother while I was recovering from a cold last week. A female C. virgo also was spotted.
